Hi, and welcome to my new weblog about Cape Cod.
My girlfriend and I have been on the Cape for more than a year and we've learned a lot about living on the Cape. This weblog will be filled with practical information about a host of subjects that are helpful, I hope, to permanent residents, part-time permanent residents and tourists.
The subheading below the weblog's title describes a lot of what I'll cover about the Cape, including:
* Shopping experiences
* Restaurants we've liked or disliked
* Art galleries we've seen
* Repair people we've used
* Gardening and birding experiences, including stores we've shopped at and implements we've used
* Pet stores and pet-related experiences
* Technology, especially wireless, on the Cape
* Transportation around and out of the Cape
I'm also going to "name names" of people and shops we've liked...or not.
My business and "tools"
Who am I (see left)? My business doesn't have much to do with Cape Cod. I've been analyzing the wireless communications business -- such as cellular and wireless LANs -- for 28 years.
I'm a wireless data consultant and I help companies, large and small, in the United States and abroad to create new wireless data products and services and enhance the ones they've already got. What's wireless data? Just about everything that is transmitted through the airwaves that's not plain ol' voice.
That means things like: Using your cellular phone to take photos and videos, receiving e-mail and sending short messages (SMS or texting), listening to music on your phone, playing games, watching live television (yep, live TV on your phone; see photo left of President's State of the Union Address on a phone), developing high-speed cellular networks and helping to develop business plans for local or nationwide WiFi networks and even the transmission of data to wristwatches from FM radio stations.
In "Practical Cape Cod" I'm going to use the tools of my trade to provide you with more information. That means posting photos from my camera phones (as a wireless data consultant I get to test lots of new phones), posting "podcasts" (audio files that you can easily listen to) and even posting videos (from my camera phones -- that can record videos) to this weblog.
More about who I am
I'll also post lots of links within these articles for you find out more information. Also, when you see a photo or graphic, you may typically click on it to see a larger image.
If you want to know more about who I am, take a look at the left hand column under "Reiter's Consulting." There's information about my business and the several other weblogs I publish that are relating to my consulting job.
But this weblog isn't about my "day job." It's about recommendations of day-to-day practical information and fun experiences of living in Cape Cod.
Dear Mr. Reiter,
I am going to be vacationing on the cape (Dennisport). Could you tell me if there are any WIFI spots in that area?
Thanks for your help!
Sincerely,
Joyce Maria
